Can the Lakers make history?
In a basketball scoreboards feature, I have reviewed the NBA playoff between the Mavericks and Lakers, and asked – can the Lakers win the next four games and make history?
The Los Angeles Lakers are in a dreadful situation against the Mavericks in the playoffs. The Mavericks are leading 3-0 in the series. Now the Los Angeles Lakers have to do something that no other NBA team has done so far, i.e. win all of the remaining 4 straight games in the series. If they win all these games, they will make NBA history, and it will be yet another glorious achievement of this illustrious team.
The Lakers will have to do something different if they want to win the playoffs. Here are a few things that the Lakers must do to avoid any chance of elimination. Kobe Bryant has to show what he is capable of. In the 3 games so far the basketball scoreboards showed that he has scored only 15 points. Kobe typically has a huge influence on the team, and he needs to realize his playing potential and uplift his team as a whole. In the 3rd game of the series, the Lakers were up by eight points with nine minutes left in the game. Usually in such situations Kobe would up his game and help the Lakers build on their lead. But on this occasion, he failed the team, and the Mavericks caught up won the game. Kobe is a fourth quarter specialist and he needs to show it.
Pau Gasol has not been performing up to the mark this series either. He is known for his defense, which sadly in this series has not been the best. In this season he has toughened up a bit, however he has been unable to stop players like Dirk Nowtizki from scoring. Dirk has been playing incredibly well this season and to stop him you need nothing but the best, and the Lakers, collectively as team, are lacking “the best” right now.
Dirk has dominated Gasol in all the three games that have been played which is one of the principal reasons why the Lakers are now in a do or die situation. Dirk and Jason Kidd are the two big names for the Mavericks and the biggest drivers of the team’s success up to now.
The next game for Lakers it is ‘win or go home’ situation. So can they do it? Can they regain their form and stop Dirk? As a Lakers supporter, I am absolutely confident that they can’t. never mind, hopefully they will be back stronger than ever next season!
