Delaware Valley High School get new electronic scoreboard from orthopedic doctors group
Every school wants a new electronic scoreboard for their teams. It’s the topic that dreams are made of in the sports world. When the football team at Delaware Valley High School came onto their field, they were just down right embarrassed at their own scoreboard. The scoreboard was barely visible, and that was actually a blessing. To support their team, the Hunterdon Orthopedic Institute, a group well known to the team members, rescued the school and team sanity by donating the $17,500 needed for a state of the art scoreboard.
The kids at Delaware Valley High School in Raritan County New Jersey are incredibly supportive of their football team. You can see videos of the latest “Terriers” games on the school website along with their motto ‘hold the rope’. The electronic scoreboard that was in their football field was the same board that was erected when the school was built in the 1960’s. The scoreboard became one of the major hurtles to overcome when the team entered the field. Some simply tried to ignore it.
An electronic scoreboard is one of the key elements of today’s sports games that brings the players, the plays, the fans and the information all together in one information stream. Today’s scoreboards give up to the minute updates, streaming video, wireless connectivity and internet updates. With the advancement of social media, many of the fans can get information on smartphone apps when they can’t attend the games. A high tech, visually pleasing, state-of-the-art electronic scoreboard is now part of the acceptable requirements of any school for their team. There are statistics that prove higher fan attendance when there is a high tech scoreboard present. This equates to higher spend per visit for the gates as well as concession stands and the purchase of ‘spirit’ items.
Ed Tranchina, the schools athletic director began coordinating with the schools booster club head, Janet Comerford, regarding the topic of some well needed project upgrades. Comerford just happened to be chatting with the Hunterdon Orthopedic Institute on the subject, and the beginning of a dream idea was born. The groups worked together to gather information on a new electronic scoreboard and an agreement was struck to allow the Hunterdon Orthopedic logo to be displayed. This complied with their 2009 policy regarding any corporate sponsorship.
The days are gone where schools and parents discouraged billboard or advertising sponsorship. In today’s world of electronics, we are surrounded by marketing efforts on all levels. The benefits of an electronic scoreboard that will bring pride to the school and the team is enhanced with the tasteful logo to remind the fans who helped them achieve this goal.
The Delaware Valley High School Terriers will soon be entering the field in the spring to see their new electronic scoreboard. This will be a physical demonstration to let the players, the team and the school know how much they are appreciated. It is hoped that this initial donation will assist in prompting other businesses and organizations to come forward for school projects that need assistance.
